Is it time to embrace the opportunity of ‘The Ands’?

Published by Randy H. Nelson
old tech versus the new

The Truth and the Trends

So, how many of you wanted to be on a ZOOM/Teams call in 2019?

Not so many.

How about in 2020?

More than in 2019 for sure, but did you really want to OR did you need to in 2020, because the world changed before our eyes with the Pandemic?

So, how about in 2021? What’s your answer now?

Are you waiting for the “normal” to return so you can go back to what it was like in 2019, and be face to face with your customers, just like in 2019 and prior?

Are you hesitantly moving forward with technology? Or are you fully embracing it and looking at is as a great “face to face” opportunity for your organization?

None of us really knows which changes the world made due to Covid-19 are permanent and which are temporary. But we are 100% in control of the decisions we make regarding the use of technology that allows us to talk to people across the globe, face to face via a computer or phone screen, without any need for travel.

As we sit here in October, many of you will be knee deep in planning for 2021 and beyond. Even if you can only plan 3-6 months out, due to the uncertainty in your industry, there is still some planning that should be happening now before we turn the page into 2021.

Embrace the ‘Ands’

I am going to recommend you embrace the And’s. Let me restate that, I am going to highly recommend you fully embrace the opportunity of the And’s.

  • Embrace ZOOM/Teams face-to-face meetings AND meeting physically face to face whenever that can occur safely.
  • Embrace the old way we did business AND the new way we have learned to do business in 2020. What does a hybrid model do for your business moving forward?
  • Embrace the technology AND learn more of what the technology can do for you, as it is evolving just like we are in 2020.

Here’s my challenge for you for the next 30 days

Set yourself up with at least two ZOOM/Teams brainstorm sessions, two hours in length for each.

Invite everyone who has ideas on how to take a major step forward on your utilization of the technology, coming up with as many ideas as possible – assuming you have agreed to embrace the technology for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021. How can your organization utilize ZOOM/Teams better, that would result in a big step forward for you in 2021 – a 2x, 3x, or maybe even a five to ten times improvement in sales and profits?

The entrepreneurial (optimistic) spirit sees opportunity in every difficulty, whereas the pessimistic leader sees difficulty in every opportunity.

So how can Zoom/Teams become a major opportunity for you now?
